US-FBIThe Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said that it will be investigating the leak of about 114,000 iPad user email addresses.

“The FBI is aware of these possible computer intrusions and has opened an investigation to address the potential cyber threat,” said FBI spokesman Jason Pack, Thursday, June 10.

Website Gawker reported last Wednesday that a group called Goatse Security was able to hack AT&T‘s iPad subscriber data. They were able to get a list of email addresses, even those of well known personalities including that of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer.

AT&T is the exclusive United States carrier of the iPhone and the iPad. The carrier already said that they have already corrected the problem and that only email addresses were hacked.

Apple, AT&T and Goatse have not made any comments yet regarding the plans of FBI.

The iPad has already sold more than 2 million units worldwide.
