iPhone OS 4.0: Multitasking at Last

“We’re not going to be the first to this party….. But we’re going to be the best.”apple-iphone-os-4-event

So claimed Apple co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs when he declared during the preview the features that are going to be newly added for iPhone via OS 4.0 but are already existing in other smartphones in the market.

And yes, this includes the much awaited multi-tasking, home screen wallpaper and the ability to categorize applications into folders. It even added the iBooks as a feature. iBooks was announced simultaneously with iPad.

The bad news however is that it looks like the multitasking willbe applicable for iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G only.

The 4.0 version will be available this summer (northern hemisphere perspective) for the iPhone and the iPod while it will be in fall season for the iPad. A beta version of the development tool was released during the preview.
