“Iron Man 2” Blasts “Robin Hood” at Box Office

Iron-Man_2-posterRobin Hood” and his merry men were no match to the fire power of “Iron Man 2,” as the second serving of Tony Stark’s adventure maintained its hold on the top spot of the box-office battle with $53 million. “Iron Man’s” second-week haul pushed its total to $212.2 million.

Russell Crowe’s take on “Robin Hood” received lukewarm reception from moviegoers, taking a not-so-good $37.1 million in its first week. Universal Pictures was hoping that “Robin Hood” would end several box-office busts that have led to managerial changes in the studio.

The Amanda Seyfried- and Vanessa Redgrave-starrer “Letters to Juliet” was a far third with $13.8 million. The film needs around $17 million in the succeeding weeks to recoup its $30 million production cost. “Just Wright,” which features Queen Latifah, took $8.5 million.

DreamWorks’ 3-D animation “How to Train Your Dragon” continued to add to its total by taking in $5.1 million for fifth place, increasing its total domestic gross to $207.8 million.
