Italy vs. Brazil FIFA Confederations Cup 2009

Italy meets Brazil tonight in Pretoria, South Africa in their last group stage match at the FIFA Confederations Cup.

The South Americans have already clinched a semi-final berth so the pressure is obviously on Italy. The Italians were ambushed by Egypt in Johannesburg, putting them on the brink of a sudden exit from the tournament.

The reigning World Cup champions need a victory by two goals to secure a spot in the semi-finals without depending on the match between the United States and Egypt. On the other hand, Brazil needs only a draw to secure first place and avoid Spain in the next round.

The game starts at 8:30 p.m. local time (2:30 p.m. ET).

UPDATE: Brazil defeated Italy 3-0 to send the reigning World Cup champions home from the Confederations Cup. Brazil scored the three goals in the last eight minutes of the first half to leave Italy facing its biggest halftime deficit in 52 years.
