It’s Official: Lopez and Tyler as next ‘American Idol’ Judges
Ending months of speculations and rumors, producers of the popular reality show American Idol officially announced the new judges for the show’s upcoming tenth season, a season that they said will have a major overhaul.
Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler emerged as the “winners” of the hunt for the next critics of the show. They beat out early favorites Shania Twain, Elton John, Chris Isaak and Harry Connick, Jr.
The announcement came Wednesday, September 22, at an event in Los Angeles. Lopez and Tyler will join the only remaining pioneer judge Randy Jackson.
American Idol ratings have declined during the last four years and the entry of the two new judges is one of the steps being taken in helping its viewership soar again.
The producers said that some other major changes are coming in so as to get away from the “karaoke feel” that the show is kind of projecting lately.
“We are 10 years-old and we are being given the opportunity to recreate the magic, “said comeback executive producer Nigel Lythgoe regarding the changes. “We have got to go back to creating an ‘American Idol’.”
