It’s official! Mariah Carey confirmed to replace Jennifer Lopez as judge on “American Idol”
Mariah Carey has been confirmed for a role as a permanent judge on the next season of American Idol. She is reported to have been signed for $17 million and replace Jennifer Lopez, who spent two years on the singing competition.
Talking about her new task, Mariah said: “I am so excited to be joining Idol. I can’t wait to get started.” And Fox entertainment chief Kevin Reilly called the 42-year-old pop superstar “the biggest recording artist that any of these (talent) shows has ever had,” adding that she was the “artist that many of these contestants have tried to emulate, have tried some of the songs, have tried to hit the notes.”
American Idol producers were left searching for new judges after Lopez and Steven Tyler turned down offers to return to the program. AI suffered a 23% fall in ratings last season but will be back on the air for season 12 in January.
