Jacob Zuma Says Sorry for 20th Child
Jacob Zuma, President of South Africa, has apologized for having a child out of wedlock. He has three legal wives.
The President, 67, admitted that he is the father of the baby of Sonono Khoza, 39, daughter of Irving Khoza, a member of the team that helped South Africa host the World Cup this year.
The acknowledgment is seen as a disaster to the political career of Zuma. He was also criticized for not being a good model in a country that encourages safe sex as the country has a high population of people infected with AIDS/HIV.
After admitting that he is the father, the President criticized the media for invading his family’s privacy. However, by Saturday, February 6, the President issued an apology.
“I deeply regret the pain that I have caused to my family, the ANC (African National Congress), the alliance and South Africans in general,” he stated.
Mr. Zuma is a Zulu, a group which practices polygamy. South Africa accepts this practice in its society. He has 19 other children.
