Jaden Smith to be the next Karate Kid
Jaden Smith is set to star in a remake of the beloved 80’s classic “The Karate Kid,” to be produced by his father, Will.
Chris Murphy will write the remake, which will take plot elements from the original film, while transplanting the action to more exotic locations.
Variety says the remake will shoot in Beijing and other international cities.
Jaden had his first acting break opposite his father in “The Pursuit of Happyness.” He’ll appear opposite Keanu Reeves in this winter’s “The Day the Earth Stood Still.”
Directed by John Avildsen, the 1984 film starred Ralph Macchio as young Daniel Larusso. Pat Morita picked up an Oscar nomination for his performance as Mr. Miyagi. It was also Elisabeth Shue‘s movie debut.
The plot will probably still be the same. Thank God. It would be awful if they tried a new scheme.
I wonder who will play the late Pat Morita‘s mentor role. There are rumors that Mr. Miyagi is to be played by Martin Lawrence. Hmmm…so I guess he won’t be called Mr Miyagi!
Wax on, wax off. Any suggestions?
