Jennifer Aniston Slammed for “Retard” Word Use

Jennifer Aniston seems to be getting in trouble with her mouth these days. About a week since she was publicly criticized by Fox anchor Bill O’Reilly for allegedly promoting single-parenthood, Aniston is again embroiled in a controversy after she used the word “retard” during an appearance on “Live with Regis and Kelly” on Thursday.

Advocates for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have slammed Aniston for showing insensitivity when she blurted out that she was “like a retard” for playing dress up. During the show, host Regis exclaimed that Aniston was playing dress up, to which the 41-year-old actress replied: “Yes, I play dress up! I do it for a living, like a retard!”

Peter Berns of nonprofit The Arc said Aniston’s use of the word was “extraordinarily offensive and inappropriate,” while Special Olympics spokeswoman Kirsten Seckler said people, especially celebrities, should be careful when they are trying to make fun of themselves. “Think before you speak,” Seckler said, adding that people should use “ridiculous” instead of the offensive “R-word.”
