Jim Zorn Fired: Redskins sack coach after disappointing campaign
The Washington Redskins fired coach Jim Zorn Monday morning, following a season-ending 23-20 defeat to the San Diego Chargers.
“The status quo is not acceptable,” General Manager Bruce Allen said in a statement. “I felt it was necessary to not waste a moment of time to begin building this team into a winner.”
The Redskins were 12-20 in two years under the 56-year-old, who had one year remaining on his contract. Washington ended the season with just four wins – its worst record for 15 years.
Zorn’s replacement will be Washington’s seventh coach since Daniel Snyder bought the NFL franchise in 1999.
Former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan is the favorite to take over.
