When I first saw this design, I didn't know what to think. After about 10 minutes of staring at it, I decided I didn't really like it. But I have since set this image as my desktop picture, and after a week, I think it kicks ass. People who are going so far as to speculate whether this redesign affects future starship designs.......holy fuck. You do realize that none of this is real, eh? None of my buddies like Star Trek, in fact, they never pass an opportunity to cut in about my love for this fantastic envisioning of humanity's future, and after showing them the new trailer, even these guys are pumped to see the new flick. So basically, if this doesn't live up to your standards, or has you really stressed out and upset...maybe it's time to re-evaluate your life? but maybe that's just me...

Looks like a kid's toy.
I wouldn't be suprised if that was the intention.
After all these movies are all about cross-merchandising (action figures ,video games etc.),With a 150 million dollar budget they've gotta make the money back somewhere besides ticket sales if box office bombs.

That ship is ugly. The original had very free form look to it, thanks for Matt Jefferies.

Well... at first glance I didn't like it... at first glance. Then I saw another profile shot and it's a beauty. I love the design. I am a hard core Trekkie and Trekker. I basically had the same reaction when I first saw the Ent-D and the E and NX-01 and the B. It's trying to imagine what it will be like because your mind keeps going back to the classic. I thought the same for Enterprise. I think eventually people will adopt this new image and remember that for the Franchise series of movies to move on it's got to evoke new change and images but still pay homage to the original ship. This one does and lets give it a chance. I wouldn't expect Kirk's ship to be the same looking when he was just entering the Academy. It looks great!

I personally don't care for the design. Yes, it follows the basic design the original. But it's hard to believe that the original Enterprise and all of it's class underwent a major redesign and refit in a short time frame. I really liked the look of the Defiant when it was in 'A Mirror Darkly' in the last season of Enterprise.

Simple fact is that they are changing the corner stone of the Star Trek franchise. Star Trek has taken a beating the last few years. This will only make it worst. The original Enterprise is an icon.

This movie will certainly take us out of our comfort zone. Why did we buy 5 different versions of the same trilogy (Star Wars original, remix, widescreen remix, enhanced, enhanced DVD, probably blu ray when it comes out)? Because we expected it to be as good when we first watched it back in 1977 (if you are that old). If we pay $9.00 to see this ST XI next year, wouldn't we fill cheated if we were to see on screen TOS Enterprise from 1967? My point is of course we hate it! But we are it's biggest fans who will end up buying this movie when it comes out in hallo deck version in 2036. Live long Star Trek!

This is a retro-version of the Enterprise D (from Next Generation). Notice the flat secondary hull and the curved engine pylons. But the Enterprise D was the most ugly version in the whole canon. What a slow-looking porky design that Andrew Probert came up with. The new design has none of the power, beauty and balance of the original. All the original needed was some texture mapping. Incidentally, why do CGI Enterprises (eg the CBS TOS version) never look as good as physical models (TOS, STMP)? Is it the lighting? The perspective? Sigh.

What the heck is JJ up too? No wonder why James Cawley (Star Trek New Voyages) didn't like it. I'll say more than that. I flat out hate it! As an original series fan since childhood, I gladly accepted the Next Generation design. Hell, I even purchased the model, which eventually turned into a science fiction project with a box of fire crackers. But it was a nice looking ship. However, and in my personal opinion, no ship design will ever match the beauty, and grace of the Refit Enterprise. At the same time, I'm still very much in love with the Original Series design, with his 60's retro look. But this design just looks to much like 2001 Space Odyssey or something! I'll watch it, but I'll probably be one very dissappointed fan. THANK GOD for JAMES CAWLEY! AT least he's trying to stay with Trek Canon, even with his current production using the Phase II enterprise, although it was never used, no thanks to Paramount. But at least their refusal to use the Phase II design led to the most beautiful starship ever imagined. The Refit of NCC-1701.....no bloody A, B, C, D, E, or what ever other Enterprise Want-a-be is imagined.....I would have though Leanard Nemoy would have offered a better suggestion than this.

Joe

In all fairness its a very good design and in my opinion its keeping with the Star Trek tradition, this is the 21st century and its about time the franchise had a bit of a face lift. I am a huge fan of Star Trek and was gutted that 'Enterprise' ended when it did.

I'm sure if Mr Roddenberry was around he would be very excited about this.

Give it a chance guys - you maybe surprised in what you see.

Well, Batman for instance tried to stay true to comics with having Two Face and Mr. Freeze back in the day and look how horrible it turned out, so staying true to a story doesn't always translate well from pen to film. Unfortunately times change and so do the people who make decisions on what stays and goes in the Star Trek franchise. They wanted to make a film that brings in more than just Trekkies. Abrams said he always liked Star Wars better and wanted to bring an element of Star Wars to Star Trek. Namely, visiting planets more than they did in the movies which were primarily focused on space battles and whatnot. The NX-01 Enterprise looked nothing like the 1701 so who's to say this ship won't become the incarnation of the 1701 or 1701-A everyone knows, but I personally really like the new design. Unfortunately TOS was written many years ago with 60's thinking of what the future will look like, and the same will be here, it's his vision now of what the future will be, not Roddenberry's

This new Star Trek Movie is going to be just absolutely horrible. Why can't these morons in hollywood write a solid story that works and stay true to the original series. This is true for any movie based on comic books,t.v. shows, and novels.
