JK Rowling, Kim Clijsters and Princess Victoria Became Barbie Dolls
Best selling author JK Rownling, tennis champion Kim Clijsters and Sweden’s Princess Victoria were immortalized after being given their own versions of the Barbie doll.
“They are true role models for girls of all ages, embodying the essence and values of Barbie,” said Barbie International Senior Vice President Rosa Zeegers.
The three dolls however are not for general sales. They are being showcased in Mattel’s showroom at the world’s largest toy fair in Nuremberg, Germany.
Only a select group of women can have their own Barbie version. They were chosen after being judged that they represent what Ruth Handler, the inventor of Barbie, intended with the doll: “My whole philosophy of Barbie is that through the doll, a little girl could be anything she wants to be. Barbie always represents the fact that a woman has choices.”
Oprah Winfey, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Melinda Gates (philanthropist wife of Bill Gates), Sally Ride (first female astronaut) and Germany Chencellor Angela Merkel were previously given their own miniature versions.
