Johnny Depp covers the July 2009 issue of Vanity Fair magazine.

For his interview, the Public Enemies star took VF contributing editor Douglas Brinkley around his 45-acre private Bahamian island called Little Hall’s Pond Cay.

Of the island Depp says: “I don’t think I’d ever seen any place so pure and beautiful. You can feel your pulse rate drop about 20 beats. It’s instant freedom.”

His hobbies include reading, playing guitar, and painting. “What I love to do is paint people’s faces, y’know, their eyes,” he says. “Because you want to find that emotion, see what’s going on behind their eyes.”

The July issue of VF hits newsstands June 9th. You can go here for a Vanity Fair magazine subscription.
