Johnson-Finnegan Brawl Marks Texans’ Victory Over Titans
Had it been on an ice rink instead of a football field, fans would have easily dismissed a brawl that marked the Houston Texans–Tennessee Titans NFL match on Sunday as a normal hockey thing.
Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson and Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan engaged in a hockey-like brawl in the fourth quarter, causing both players to be thrown out of the match won by Houston, 20-0. Johnson and Finnegan had been going at it the whole match, but the final straw came when the Titans cornerback hit the Texan star in the mouth as they were in the line of scrimmage. The two spun each other as they both lost their helmets. Then, Johnson landed two blows to the head as Finnegan fell to the ground before other players and referees intervened.
After the match, the usually cool-headed Johnson admitted that he “just lost my cool.” Finnegan refused to comment about the brawl, which could lead to further sanctions from the NFL. “I wish that I could take back what happened, but I can’t,” Johnson said. “I’m pretty sure I’ll be disciplined for it.”
