Kirsten Gillibrand: The Next New York Senator
Governor Paterson has selected Representative Kirsten Gillibrand to take Hillary Clinton’s senate seat after she was appointed by President Barack Obama to be his Secretary of State.
Sources reported that the governor would make the announcement at noon Friday in Albany. He has reportedly invited the state’s entire congressional delegation to attend then, but asked Gillibrand to arrive at 11.
Kirsten Elizabeth Rutnik Gillibrand (born December 9, 1966) is an American politician and Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives, representing New York’s 20th congressional district since 2007. She is the first female representative of the district and the first Democrat to represent the district since Edward W. Pattison left office in 1979.
