Knicks Get Tracy McGrady in 3-Team Swap
The New York Knicks have snagged Tracy McGrady in a deal that also involved the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings. The deal turned out to be the biggest before the trade deadline lapsed, as the Phoenix Suns decided to hold on to Amar’e Stoudemire. Also going to the Knicks is Sacramento guard Sergio Rodriguez.
Houston, on the other hand, will get high-scoring Kevin Martin and Hilton Armstrong from the Kings. Jared Jeffries and Jordan Hill of the Knicks are also relocating to Houston. Sacramento will get the Rockets’ second-leading scorer Carl Landry and Joey Dorsey, as well as the Knicks’ Larry Hughes.
Houston also gets the right to exchange first-round picks with the Knicks in the 2011 draft and acquire New York’s 2012 first-round draft choice, reports said.
The move is extra significant for the Knicks, as it allows them to free salary cap room ahead of the free agency market this summer by getting rid of Jeffries’ $ 9 million due for next year.
In a separate deal, the Knicks shipped three-time slam dunk champion Nate Robinson and Marcus Landry to the Boston Celtics for Eddie House, J.R. Giddens, and Bill Walker.
