Kurt Cobain Biopic in the Works…Again

A movie about the life of grunge legend and Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain could soon start filming. The planned biopic of the former Nirvana frontman has been shelved several times due to various problems. However, director Oren Moverman has reportedly started talks about writing a new script based on the Cobain biography, Heavier than Heaven written by Charles Cross.

Moverman, who shot to fame with his directorial debut The Messenger, will write and direct the Cobain biopic. Moverman co-wrote I’m Not There, a movie about the life of Bob Dylan. Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love, has signed up as executive producer, reports said.

If the project pushes through, it will be the first biopic to be entirely based on the life of the rocker, who died on April 5, 1996 by firing a shotgun to his head. A movie loosely based on Cobain’s life, Last Days, was made by Gus Van Sant in 2005.

Another problem that Moverman might face is choosing the actor who will play Cobain, as fans of the songwriter/guitarist will surely be unforgiving of a casting fiasco.
