La Liga: FC Barcelona vs. Atletico Madrid

FC Barcelona have won their two games played so far as have Real Madrid. However, the defending champs are ahead of Los Blancos in terms of goal difference, and will try to make it nine points out of nine when they play Atletico Madrid tonight.

According to reports, Barca may face Los Colchoneros without Gerard Pique, who twisted an ankle in the 0-0 draw at Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League on midweek. Dmytro Chygrynskiy, a recent signing from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk, is set to play instead.

Atletico head to the Camp Nou low on confidence, short on players and fresh from being booed off following their home draw to Cypriot side APOEL. They lost to Malaga and drew with Racing last week, and they currently lie in the 18th place in the rankings.

Colchoneros have to win in order to get their season up and running. If they beat the reigning champs, it will certainly give them a huge boost.

Meanwhile Lionel Messi has signed a new deal with Barca that will keep him with the Spanish giants until the end of June 2016.

Aside from having a substantial wage increase, the 22-year-old Argentine star has also agreed to a substation raise to the buyout clause on his contract. Any club that now wants to acquire him will have to pay 250 million Euros.

Game time is 10:00 p.m. CET (4:00 p.m. ET).

UPDATE: Barca maintained their perfect start to the campaign with a 5-2 thrashing of Atletico with goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Lionel Messi, Dani Alves and Seydou Keita. Messi scored twice.
