La Liga: Barcelona vs. Deportivo La Coruna
Defending champions FC Barcelona will be hosting Deportivo La Coruna tonight aiming to take the next step towards retaining their La Liga title.
Last Saturday, Lionel Messi and Pedro both scored for Barca as the Catalans defeated Real Madrid 2-0 to take a three-point lead atop the Spanish league. With that advantage, Pep Guardiola’s men can now afford one slip-up in their last seven games, but I don’t think Barca will take the Herculinos lightly in this match.
The last time these two sides met, the Catalans won 3-1. Deportivo was lying at the fifth position at that time, but now they are ninth in the table.
Last Sunday the Galician outfit was held to a 1-1 draw at Estadio Riazor against Racing Santander in a fixture in which the players looked to be tired and waiting for the end of the season.
However, in a recent press conference, coach Miguel Angel Lotina said: “We hope to make it difficult for Barcelona. I’m not sure if we can go and win because they are in a great moment and we are not, but I’m sure we can have a good game.”
The match kicks-off at 22:00 CET (4:00 p.m. ET).
UPDATE: Barca moved six points clear at the top of the Spanish league with a 3-0 win over Deportivo.
