La Liga: Barcelona vs. Getafe
Current La Liga champions FC Barcelona host an unpredictable Getafe side at Camp Nou and the Catalans will try to increase their lead to put pressure on Real Madrid who plays after this match.
Last weekend Barca recorded a golden win on hot ground against Sporting de Gijon, thus staying on five points ahead of their arch-rivals.
Pep Guardiola’s men continue to omit an aura of almost invincibility, but the Barca coach says his team will slip up sooner or later in the league, but hopes that does not happen tonight.
“They are a tricky side—they have always had good, well-managed teams with good players,” Guardiola admitted. “Sooner or later we will slip up—if we behave well they will find it harder (to beat us), but one day or another we are going to lose.”
The big question is whether or not Thierry Henry will be in the starting lineup and if Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be able to score his first goal this year.
This will be the 12th meeting between these two clubs in La Liga with Barca leading the head to head record by seven wins to one. However, the Azulones has had an excellent season that sees them seventh in the standings.
Meanwhile Daniel Alves has been cleared to play tonight after recovering from a leg problem. The Brazilian injured his right leg in training last month and missed last weekend’s victory over Gijon.
The match kicks-off at 20:00 CET (2:00 p.m. ET).
UPDATE: Barca defeated Getafe 2-1 through goals from Lionel Messi and Xavi. Striker Roberto Soldado scored a late penalty for Azulones, but it was no more than a consolation goal. The game was special for Andres Iniesta who made his 200th league appearance for the Catalans.
