La Liga: Real Madrid vs. Espanyol

The Galacticos are in Barcelona tonight to play against the town’s lesser-known side, Espanyol.

Real Madrid defeated Deportivo 3-2 at the Bernabeu in the first round of matches prior to the recent international break, while Espanyol went down by a single goal at Athletic Bilbao.

Don’t be surprised if you see Cristiano Ronaldo among the substitutes for tonight’s match. A Spanish newspaper claims that his participation from international duty over the last week is a major factor for coach Manuel Pellegrini’s decision to leave the Portuguese striker out of the starting lineup.

Meanwhile Shunsuke Nakamura will be looking to impress on his home debut for Espanyol. The Japanese winger joined the club on a free transfer this summer after a successful four year stint with Celtic.

Game time is 8:00 pm (2:00 pm ET) at Estadi Cornella-El Prat.

UPDATE: Real Madrid beat Espanyol 3-0 on goals from from Esteban Granero, Guti and Cristiano Ronaldo, who had started the game on the subs’ bench.
