La Liga: Real Madrid vs. Xerez C.D.

Cristiano Ronaldo leads Real Madrid against Xerez Club Deportivo tonight in a true “David and Goliath” clash at the Santiago Bernabeu.

While Real was spending millions on players such as Ronaldo and Kaka, the Andalusian side lost half of its squad because of financial troubles.

Xerez brought some players on loan but those are mainly midfielders. What they really need now are strikers.

After two opening rounds, the Azulinos are without points. They began the La Liga season with a 2-0 defeat at Mallorca and lost again last weekend, going down 1-0 against Athletic Bilbao.

Los Blancos on the other hand have started with two victories from two matches played and followed up those wins with a 5-2 thumping of Zurich in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Game time is 7:00 p.m. CET (1:00 p.m. ET).

UPDATE: Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to lead Real Madrid to a 5-0 victory over the newly promoted Xerez. Real’s last four goals arrived in a late 13-minute spell, with Guti, Karim Benzema and Ruud van Nistelrooy also hitting the net.
