Lakers victory parade
The Los Angeles Lakers will celebrate the team’s 15th NBA title with a victory parade today (June 17) at 11 a.m. PST.
The event kicks off at the Staples Center, travel down Figueroa and will end at the Coliseum, where the Championship Rally will take place as players, coaches, and others will address around 95,000 fans.
Private donors stepped up to ease most of the money concerns after unions complained the city couldn’t afford to share the expense.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said some of the L.A.’s wealthiest residents had donated $850,000 to cover the city’s police, fire and public works costs for the celebration.
With multitude of fans expected at today’s parade, and several streets expected to be closed, commuters should anticipate delays on various routes, but additional train service will be in place to shuttle fans to the festivities.
