LAPD Investigating Oksana Grigorieva
The accuser is now the accused in the never-ending Mel Gibson-Oksana Grigorieva saga. An official of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has revealed that investigators are now looking at allegations that Oksana Grigorieva attempted to extort money from her former partner Mel Gibson.
Sheriff’s Department official Steve Whitmore said that “extortion allegations have been brought to our attention and we are certainly going to be looking at that.” The investigation was launched after lawyers for Gibson told authorities that they have evidence that could pin Grigorieva on extortion charges. Gibson’s camp said that Grigorieva threatened to release phone tapes of their allegedly violent arguments.
Grigorieva’s attorney, Stephen Jaffe, has dismissed the allegations against his client. Jaffe said that Grigorieva denies doing any form of extortion, “and she stands steadfastly by that statement.”
The investigation is the latest of the many twists and turns that are gradually unraveling in the heated custody battle between Gibson and Grigorieva over their months-old daughter, Lucia. The 40-year-old Grigorieva has accused Gibson, 54, of hitting her and their child in one of his violent fits. Last week, pictures of an allegedly battered Grigorieva appeared on the Web. Gibson’s lawyers have dismissed the photograph as a fake.
