Lindsay Lohan Set to Begin Jail Sentence

Lindsay Lohan will officially become a jailbird on Tuesday, as she begins her 90-day sentence at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California. Lohan will be assigned a cell in the special needs unit of the 16-year-old, two-story facility, where the actress spent 84 minutes back in 2007 for a drunken driving violation.

Although Lohan was handed a 90-day sentence, she is not expected to serve the full length of it due to jail overcrowding and a state program that rewards inmates for good behavior. Los Angeles County Sheriff Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said nonviolent female misdemeanor offenders, such as in the case of Lohan, usually serve only around 25 percent of their sentences.

Several other celebrities have served jail time at the 2,200-bed facility that has been Los Angeles County’s only all-female jail the past four years. Paris Hilton stayed in the facility for 23 days in 2007 for a reckless driving offense while “Lost” star Michelle Rodriguez has stayed in the detention twice.
