Lindsay Lohan Under House Arrest
Lindsay Lohan has begun serving time under house arrest for a high-profile jewelry theft case involving a $2,500 gold necklace that the “Parent Trap” actress reportedly stole from a Venice, California, store.
Lohan reported to a Los Angeles jail early Thursday. She was later brought to her home, where the 24-year-old former child star will not be allowed to leave. Lohan was also required to wear an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet as part of her punishment. It was not clear how long the actress will be put under house arrest, although a Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department official was quoted as saying by Reuters that Lohan’s sentence might last no more than 17 days.
Lohan was originally sentenced to four months in jail and 480 hours of community service, but the non-violent nature of her offense and jail overcrowding made her eligible for a downgrade to house arrest. “She is now confined to the interior premises of her home at all times,” L.A. Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore told People.com.
