Magazine to display Harry Potter-style ads
The magazine with moving pictures—like the animated newspapers in Harry Potter films and Minority Report—will finally become a reality.
American broadcaster CBS will run video in print advertisements in the upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly. The mag will contain a mini speaker and a wafer-thin screen that can hold up to 40 minutes of video footage. It’ll have buttons for readers to scroll through clips from various shows.
The video player, made by the US firm Americhip, measures 2 inches by 1.5 inch and has a 320 x 240 resolution. Each screen is also capable of running continuously for up to 70 minutes, and is powered by a battery that can be recharged through a USB connection.
The first wave of ads will be for Pepsi and CBS shows such as The Big Bang Theory and Two And A Half Men. They’ll appear in EW’s September 18 TV preview issue— but not in all copies.
