Manchester City wins FA Cup [VIDEO]
Manchester City ended its 35-year title drought Saturday, beating Stoke City 1-0 in the FA Cup final at London’s Wembley Stadium, thanks to Yaya Toure‘s second-half goal.
The 28-year-old Ivorian midfielder almost broke the net with his 74th minute strike after Mario Balotelli’s halted effort fell into his path. City boss Roberto Mancini said: “We were fantastic. I can say only that I’m very happy for all the supporters. After many years they deserve to win this trophy.”
Meanwhile Manchester United clinched a record 19th English league title when a Wayne Rooney penalty kick gave the Red Devils a 1-1 stalemate at Blackburn on Saturday. Steve Kean’s side took the lead in the 20th minute through Brett Emerton and should have gone further ahead in the second half when Martin Olsson headed against the post.
It was the Old Trafford club’s 12th Premier League title and the 19th over all, surpassing the record it had shared with Liverpool for the last two seasons.
