Mark Wahlberg Gets Walk of Fame Star

Mark Wahlberg has been immortalized on the Walk of Fame after he received his own star on the famous Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk on Thursday.

Wahlberg received the honor in the presence of his wife, model Rhea Durham, and their four kids, Ella Rae, Michael, Brendan Joseph, and six-month old Grace Margaret. “I’m so happy my kids are sitting through this,” he said. “When I heard I was getting this star, I felt like it was a practical joke.”

The ceremony was timed with Wahlberg’s promotion of his new movie “The Other Guys,” which opens next week. Co-star Will Ferrell was also present during the unveiling of Wahlberg’s star.

The 39-year-old actor started his career as a rapper with the group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. He also had a stint as a model, with his Calvin Klein underwear ad making him some sort of a sex symbol. Wahlberg made his acting debut in the 1993 film “The Substitute,” but got his first big break in 1997’s “Boogie Nights,” where he received critical approval for his portrayal of male prostitute Dirk Diggler. In 2006, he received Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for best supporting actor for his role as Sgt. Sean Dignam in “The Departed.”
