Matt Kenseth was declared the winner of the 2009 NASCAR-Sprint Cup-Daytona 500 on Sunday when heavy rain stopped the race after 152 laps, 48 short of the scheduled distance.

“I’m crying like a baby. I thank my team and my family. It’s an unbelievable feeling, after last year, winning a race means a lot to me. These guys have been fired up and working hard, it’s just unbelievable,” he said.

The victory was the first in more than a year for the Ford-driving former NASCAR champion. 2007 winner Kevin Harvick finished second in a Chevrolet while A.J. Allmendinger earned the third spot in a Dodge.

Sunday’s race was the fourth in Daytona 500 history to be shortened by rain. The most recent was 2003 when the race was called after 109 laps with Michael Waltrip leading.
