Michael Douglas Says He’s Got Cancer “Beat”
Michael Douglas has successfully completed the first hurdle to fully recovering from throat cancer, telling The Today Show’s Matt Lauer in an interview that would air on Tuesday that his tumor has disappeared after a heavy combination of chemotherapy and radiation.
“The odds are, with the tumor gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer, that I’ve got it beat,” Douglas, 66, said. The next step for the Oscar-winning actor is to wait and hope that the cancer will not reappear in the next three years. Experts usually wait three years to determine that a patient is totally rid of his cancer.
Douglas, who was diagnosed with late-stage throat cancer in August last year, also told Lauer that he is now trying to recover all the weight he lost while undergoing treatment. “I’m eating like a pig … I lost about 32 pounds. And I’ve put about 12 back,” the “Wall Street” actor said.
