It is ridiculous that people are upset by this. Shorts are a perfectly acceptable piece of casual clothing and its not as she’s parading around in a bikini top and hotpants! What anybody wears in their owntime is up to them. Just because the people voted her husband president does not then give people the right to try and dictate what they do in their free time.

I read the headline about the First Lady wearing short shorts, so I had to see what the hoopla was all about. What is wrong with people and the media? I saw nothing wrong with what Mrs. Obama was wearing during her vacation with her daughters. It’s not like she was going to some social appoitment where she was representing the office of the President, she was on vacation. The media was looking for a story where there is none. Get a life!

Surely we’re past the days where she’s expected to wear a skirt suit or smart dress whenever she’s in the public eye?!

I love that she’s retained the ability to be a ‘normal’ woman, as well as being the First Lady. I have the utmost respect for her and if she wants to walk around with a teatowel on her head, it won’t lessen the respect I have for her as an intelligent, strong woman and an excellent role model for young women.

im from England and this seems sheer balderdash. why this is credited as newsworthy is utterly preposterous. Although i think she should wear more shin length dresses personally if i saw her majesty in shorts i would leg it to my mother and console her. it is the American way for people to wear things like that i am used to it.i do hope my dear mother is not exposed to things like that.

Greg, your comment started off really good, until you then went on to mention the “shin length dresses”. I am from England too, and do not see anything wrong with people dressing the way they wish. She was not on Public Engagement, she was on holiday.
I and most other people, dress differently at work than we do at home. But I would not expect to be brought up in front of my supervisors if they saw me at the weekend wearing shorts.

If she does not want to act like a first LADY… Then she should not be in office. The guards are wearing uniforms (LONG SLEVEES UNIFORMS) because they are guards… and it was just as hot…..

I just read an article about several readings being upset concerning Michelle Obama wearing shorts on her vacation at the Grand Canyon. What’s the problem? I myself see nothing wrong with her wearing shorts at HER FAMILY VACATION. She is a human -being just like the rest of us only thing different is that she is the first lady. Do everyone expect her to wear a suit with heals to visit the canyon remember she’s in her forties who is in great shape and is able to show off her great legs and arms. I wouldn’t want to see some of the first ladies of the past wearing shorts or wearing a sleeveless dress. I think I would go into cardiac arrest. People complained about her going to a soup kitchen with sneaker. So stop complaining and find something else logical to complain about instead of what the first lady is wearing. Yes Nancy Regean loved her ball-room growns and expensive dress worth thousand and thousand of dollars while American people was in a slump and the maket itself was collapsing in the 80's. Barbara Bush wore her expensive Polyester Suits while American went into a recesssion. Michelle is a down to earth individual who doesn't place herself above others.

This is one reason that I wouldn’t ever want to be famous. First of all, those are not short shorts. They are just shorts. Secondly, people need to really lighten up. Why is everyone so uptight about small things like this? Don’t they have better things to worry about? Great post!

Its strange to know that Michelle is first lady so she cant wear shorts. She is on a holiday not on a business meeting that she has to wear business suit there. If she is wearing shorts on a holiday with her family then it is not a big deal.
