Why are people so uptight? Just because she's the 1st Lady, she can't wear casual, comfortable attire that is completely in line with today's fashion trends. The same goes for Palin. She was obviously relaxing by the pool and most likely had a swimsuit on underneath (probably a bikini, what a scandal because nobody's ever seen someone in a bikini before) and wanted to catch some rays. How can one expect to get a tan if they're all covered up? America needs to grow up and stop being so immature. It's not like either of these women are dressing like trashy whores.

I am a very conservative republican. I dress very conservatively. I do not like Obama's politics. I do however like Ms. Obama's shorts. There is absolutely nothing wrong with them. I think it is ridiculous that people are criticizing her shorts! Give us a break, please.

Here we go again, lowering standards instead of raising them. I feel is is fine to have a casual outfit, but that short outfit is very inappropriate for a first lady. I am sure she can choose a much nicer outfit that is just as cool and comfortable. It is not a question of worrying or the world coming to a end but it would be nice for Michelle to set a better example for our young people who think nothing of dressing like slobs!!!!!!

Really? Does the media think we care about this? I mean… common do her shorts reduce her ability to be first-lady? Hey, I got a great idea… let’s pass a federal law prohibiting shorts. At least pick topics that Americans should know about. How about the FDA banning electronic cigarettes, the only effective and safer alternative to smoking? How about our nation’s enormous debt that shows no sign of slowing? How about the over crowding of our prison system with non-violent offenders? Surely the media can find something of substance to report on…

First of all she is not showing anything inappropriate. Second of all she still dresses better than most celebrities in the US and definitely better than most Americans. There is nothing wrong in how she dressed, even if she is the First Lady of the US. At least we have someone that acts normal like others in real life in the US.

No one ever complained if Bush went back to his Ranch (taking Air Force One). Since the Obama’s do not have an estate to hide out for the summer, they are actually doing something good for the country. They take a tour around the country and being a good example for Americans showing how we can take a vacationing at home.

Further more, as the president, he is not permitted to take a commercial flight (just think about the security risk for him), so for him taking Air Force One is the only option available. Unless you want him to hide in the White House for the summer, since all the other politicians are vacationing overseas or doing everything other than working on solutions. Call all the congress back and tell them there is no vacation for the summer until the economic crisis is solved. Then I will let the argument go that he should not be vacationing.

President Obama is more a president of the people and for the people than many of his predecessors. Regardless if we like his policies or not, but at least he cares about the people.

We are developing our self in the US into a society that can’t see anything good in our opponent. Either you are on one side or the other. There is no more middle ground, no more compromises. The losing side will always cry foul play or even more ridiculous things, no one can accept anything other than their opinion any more. Logic, compassion, realism, and common sense have been replaced with bitterness, mono vision, and the constant feeling that our country is being hijacked by people that want to dismatel our constitution.

The realty is that we have not done any of that, just that we have moved so far away from the common sense of the constitution that we get the feeling that the other side is hijacking it, but actually we are moving our self away from it and blame the other side for our inabilities and our improper vision, opinion, and the blindness to be realistic. This is valid for all sides and not just one!

Oh for crying out loud! She’s a young and healthy American woman. She has a young family. She wears shorts and looks good in them! So what? Americans, male and female, wear shorts. Some of us even wear them to work (i.e., U.S Postal Service workers). You go, Michelle!!

Michelle should wear a burka, maybe? I thought we were fighting a couple of wars, in part, over the right of women not to be severely punished for letting men see that they have bodies. Still, it’s rather amazing how not very long ago women were kicked out of toney clubs for wearing pants-suits–or not even allowed in the front doors of private men’s clubs.

Role models in short supply

I’ve been following the recent media madness about the ‘shorts’ worn by First Lady, Michelle Obama, on a recent family vacation.

My interest was not with Mrs Obama’s wardrobe choices. Quite frankly, I couldn’t care less what she wears on a summer holiday to the Grand Canyon.

Rather, my interest lay in fact that Mrs Obama was frequently referred to as a ‘Role Model’, hence the criticism of her shorts.

Yes, Michelle Obama is a role model.. . BUT… so are many of the celebrities whose frequent, scantily clad antics do not gain nearly as much, if any, media attention. To make matters worse, it is these ‘celebrity types’ who are the role models for far younger and more impressionable minds.

If the media thinks that these are short shorts, then what the hell do you see most teenage girls wearing today? THOSE are short shorts. These are casual walk around shorts for 90+ degree weather. I am a Republican who isn’t even a huge fan of the Obama’s and I am saying that this is ridiculous.

Her attire was appropriate for her plans that day even though her legs are just average.

I think people forget that this woman is a MOTHER? she is a mother first and foremost, and I think she dressed appropriately for vacationing with her family. It is the summer, it was close to 95 degrees or more out there, what was she suppose to wear? a sundress and heels to go hiking around, sightseeing with her husband and kids? Oh Please!.. Michelle Obama is a beautiful, modern woman… gone are the days of the old, stuck up, silly ole bats they use to call First Ladies… Thank God.
