Miss Angola Wins Miss Universe 2011

Leila Lopes of Angola was crowned Miss Universe 2011 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Monday, becoming the first from her country to bag the prestigious beauty title.

Lopes, a 25-year-old business student, defeated for the title contestants from Ukraine, Brazil, Philippines, and China, along with 84 other beauties from across the globe. Miss Angola helped her cause by calmly answering the final question thrown by Miss Saigon veteran and Tony Award-winning singer Lea Salonga, who asked Lopes which of her physical attributes she would change. Lopes, speaking through an interpreter, said: ” Thank God I’m very satisfied with the way God created me and I wouldn’t change a thing, I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family and I intend to follow these for the rest of my life.”

Miss Ukraine Olesya Stefanko won first runner-up, followed by hometown bet Miss Brazil Priscila Machado. One of the crowd favorites, Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup bagged third runner up, while Miss China Luo Zilin settled for fourth runner up.
