Miss Michigan Crowned Miss USA
Miss Michigan Rima Fakih has been named Miss USA, besting 50 other contestants in ceremonies held at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Fakih, a 24-year-old brunette, edged four blondes who joined her in the top five.
Fakih nearly suffered an embarrassing situation when she almost tripped while she was concluding her evening gown competition walk. Fakih struggled with the long train of her strapless gown. She shrugged off the near-fall to confidently answer the question thrown at her in the interview part of the competition. Fakih was asked about her take on health insurance paying for people’s birth control. The 24-year-old confidently answered that she believed birth control should be paid for by insurance.
The first runner-up was bagged by Miss Oklahoma Morgan Elizabeth Woolard, who said that she supports Arizona’s controversial immigration law. Miss Virginia Samantha Evelyn Casey was second runner-up followed by Miss Colorado Jessica Hartman and Miss Maine Katherine Ashley Whittier.
Fakih, who replaces Kristen Dalton, will receive one-year free rental in a New York apartment along with living allowance among other prizes. She will also represent the USA in the 2010 Miss Universe pageant, which will be held in Las Vegas on August 22.
