MLB Chief Bud Selig Upholds Galarraga’s “Imperfect” Game

Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga will have to be contented having an almost-perfect game, at least for the meantime. Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig has refused to reverse umpire Jim Joyce‘s missed call that robbed Galarraga of a perfect game.

In a statement, Selig said the league will study the option of expanding its use of replays. However, the statement did not explicitly say that it was not reversing Joyce’s apparently wrong call despite the umpire’s admission of fault and subsequent tearful apology.

Galarraga accepted Joyce’s apology and tipped his hat to the umpire’s admission of his mistake. “”I have a lot of respect for the man. It takes a lot to say you’re sorry and to say in interviews he made a mistake.”

While Galarraga missed the chance to complete the 21st perfect game in history, he did not go home empty handed as the Tigers and Chevrolet gave him a brand new Corvette.
