Mo’Nique’s Brother Says He Molested the Oscar Winner
Gerald Imes, Academy Award Best Supporting Actress Mo’Nique‘s brother, has appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” to say sorry to his sister for sexually abusing her when they were young. Imes admitted to Oprah that he molested his then-pre-teen younger sibling for about a year or two.
Imes, who was 13 years old when he took advantage of his sister, said he decided to come clean because he want to repair his relationship with his sister. “Hopefully somewhere, somehow as siblings we can come back together as brother and sister.” Mo’Nique’s mother, who also appeared on the show, said that learning about the molestation “was such a heartbreaking thing to accept.”
Mo’Nique, who won an Oscar for her role as an abusive mother to an illiterate and sexually abused daughter in “Precious,” had previously talked about the molestation. She, however, refused to join her family on the “Oprah” episode although she reportedly gave Winfrey her blessings to conduct the interview.
