NBA: Heat Sign Erick Dampier
The Miami Heat, faltering despite having star-studded line-up, have decided to tinker with their roster in a bid to start piling up wins as they were expected to prior to the start of the season.
Preparing for the worst in regard to the condition of center Udonis Haslem, the Heat signed veteran big man Erick Dampier on Tuesday, but decided to let go of shooting guard Jerry Stackhouse. The entry of Dampier became a necessity for the struggling Heat after Haslem went down with a torn ligament in his left foot, an injury that could sideline him for the rest of the season.
Dampier, who has not seen action this season after he was waived by the Charlotte Bobcats, is being counted on to boost the Heat in the middle. “He’ll be able to bolster our front line and probably give us some of the things that we’ve been lacking so far,” coach Erik Spoelstra said.
Miami has struggled this season despite the presence of LeBron James, who was acquired by the Heat during the summer. The Heat are currently second in the Southeast with a win-loss record of 8-6. Their most recent defeat came on Monday, when they were blown away at home by the Indiana Pacers, 77-93.
