Next Bond Film Director Sought by Sam Mendes
Mendes, however, is more prominent with directing dramas instead of action flicks. The only action movie he has directed so far is 2005’s Jarhead.
The film would be the 23rd in the Bond franchise. Production is slated to start in June with a target of 2011 release date.
If Mendes gets the nod, he will be the first Oscar-winning director to helm a film about the British suave spy. The script will be written by Bond veterans Neal Purvis and Robert Wade along with yet another Oscar winner Peter Morgan (The Queen).
The filmmaker, husband of fellow Oscar winner and Titanic star Kate Winslet, won his golden statuette for his very first feature, American Beauty. His other films include Road to Perdition, Away We Go and Revolutionary Road where he directed wife Winslet and her fellow Titanic star Leonardo DiCaprio in some bed scenes.
