NFL Playoffs: San Diego Chargers vs. New York Jets

The San Diego Chargers will host the New York Jets this afternoon in the final NFL Divisional Playoff game. The winner of this match gets to play against the Indianapolis Colts on January 24th for the Championship Round.

The Jets just barely got into the postseason, while the Chargers paved their way into the playoffs following an eleven-game winning streak.

Led by Philip Rivers, San Diego has averaged 28.4 points per game this season and 271.1 passing yards per contest. For the Chargers to win, they need the 28-year-old quarterback to play his type of game, and to spread the ball out to all of his receivers.

The Jets, on the other hand, will have to rely on their defense. But against Rivers and San Diego’s efficient offense, the challenge will be brutal.

Rivers was NFL’s third-rated passer this term behind Drew Brees and Brett Favre. He was one of only four players to receive MVP votes, finishing behind Peyton Manning and Brees in the balloting.

These teams have met once in the postseason, with the Jets scoring a 20-17 overtime win at Qualcomm Stadium in a 2004 AFC First-Round Playoff.

The match kicks-off at 4:40 p.m. ET.

UPDATE: Mark Sanchez and Shonn Greene led the New York Jets to a dramatic 17-14 victory over the San Diego Chargers in the divisional playoffs.
