Nuggets beat Lakers 106-103 to even West finals

Chauncey Billups hit three free throws in the final 14 seconds Thursday and Denver outfought the Los Angeles Lakers 106-103 to even the Western Conference finals.

It was Denver’s first-ever playoff victory against Los Angeles, which owned an 11-0 record dating to 1985.

Carmelo Anthony scored 34 points and 14 rebounds, Billups finished with 27 points and 16 boards and Linas Kleiza added 16 points for the Nuggets.

Denver will have a chance to take the series lead Saturday when the Nuggets host Game 3.

Kobe Bryant notched 32 points, Trevor Ariza finished with a career playoff-high 20 and Pau Gasol added 17 points and 17 rebounds for the Lakers.
