Obama family portrait released (but where’s Bo?)

The Obamas have released a new official first family portrait, the work of America’s most celebrated photographer Annie Leibovitz.

The picture, posted by the White House on its official Flickr page, shows Barack Obama, wife Michelle and daughters Malia, 11, and eight-year-old Sasha looking happy and relaxed as they pose in the Green Room. It was taken September 1 and released Friday morning (October 23).

As for where Bo, the first dog, is, the first lady’s spokeswoman laughed and told Reuters, “Bo didn’t make the cut. He was upstairs at home.”

If you’re unfamiliar with Liebovitz, she’s the one who took a famous shot of John Lennon and Yoko Ono on the day the former Beatle was assassinated. She also snapped unforgettable naked photos of Demi Moore while she was pregnant. It was also her who took the picture of Michelle Obama for the cover of Vogue’s March 2009 issue.
