Obama is keeping his BlackBerry
“I’m still clinging to my BlackBerry,” President Barack Obama said in a recent interview with CNBC. “They’re going to pry it out of my hands.”
Well, it seems the commander-in-chief has won the battle to keep hold of his smartphone.
“The president has a BlackBerry through a compromise that allows him to stay in touch with senior staff and a small group of personal friends,” White House press secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters on Thursday.
But Gibbs added that its use would be “limited” and its security “enhanced”.
According to The Atlantic, Obama will use a customized Berry with “super-encryption package” to prevent information from winding up in the hands of hackers.
The magazine reports that the handheld device was developed by an unnamed intelligence agency – most likely the National Security Agency.
