Obama Slams Republican Party
United States President Barack Obama called the Republican Party an obstructionist force that blocks the nation’s economic recovery for political purposes.
Obama said in his weekly address that the nation needs “to take new, common-sense steps to help small businesses, grow our economy and create jobs — and we need to take them now. For months, that’s what we’ve been trying to do. But too often, the Republican leadership in the United States Senate chooses to filibuster our recovery and obstruct our progress. And that has very real consequences.”
The statement came after the Democratic senators lacked the needed 60 votes to break a Republican filibuster for a 34 billion dollar bill extending unemployment insurance that the House already passed.
The call, however, is seen as a part of campaign preparations for the upcoming midterm elections in November. Recent survey says that 45% wants Republicans back in control in Congress. Only 43% said they want Democrats to retain control.
