President Barack Obama and the first family welcomed a 6-month-old Portuguese water dog named Bo.

The curly-haired puppy, a gift from Sen. Ted Kennedy, owes its name to the President’s daughters, Sasha and Malia. They chose the name because their cousins have a cat named Bo and because Mrs. Obama’s father was nicknamed Diddley, as in Bo Diddley.

Bo charmed the family at a secret meeting at the White House a few weeks ago, according to The Washington Post.

The dog is from a hypoallergenic breed, a must because of Malia’s allergies.

Bo will have his official unveiling on Tuesday.

i love his dog..I heard that recently Obamas' new Portuguese water dog, Bo, makes his official debut. Bo needs lots of activity or he may end up “running full-speed down the West Wing … It looks so cool and cute..
