Obama’s Race to the Top Finalists Named

Finalists for the second round of US President Barack Obama’s Race to the Top program were recently released to the media.

Race to the Top is designed to transform U.S. education with $4.35 billion in federal grants.

The list of finalists, which will be announced by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan at the National Press Club in Washington, include 18 states and the District of Columbia.

Finalists include: Arizona, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and South Carolina. Winners of the funds will be revealed in September, the department said.
