Osama bin Laden Killed in Pakistan
U.S. President Barack Obama announced the news to the world Sunday night that the most prominent terrorist leader, Osama bin Laden, has been killed in Pakistan.
Speaking from the East Room of the White House, Obama said, “I can report to the American people and to the world, that the US has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda”
According to sources, a CIA-led team killed the al Qaeda leader at a compound inside Pakistan where his body was later recovered. Osama was killed in a firefight last week and DNA test results confirm his identity.
“We had located him, hiding within a compound, deep in Pakistan,” Obama said. “At my direction, the US launched a targeted operation … no Americans were harmed and after a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden.”
Osama bin Laden was the founder of the jihadist terrorist organization al-Qaeda, responsible for the September 11 attacks on the United States and numerous other mass-casualty attacks against civilian and military targets.
