Pacquiao to Face Margarito in November
Manny Pacquiao has picked former welterweight champion Antonio Margarito as his next opponent after negotiations with the camp of undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. fell through for the second time in less than a year.
Top Rank big boss Bob Arum announced on Saturday that seven-division champion Pacquiao will tangle with the comebacking Margarito on November 13, possibly for the WBC 154-pound title vacated by Sergio Martinez. No venue has been picked for the fight pending approval of Margarito’s application for reinstatement of his license. Margarito’s license was suspended by the California State Athletic Commission early last year after it was found that he used an illegal hand-wrapping for his January 24 fight with Shane Mosley.
Arum said he wants the fight held in Las Vegas, where Margarito has a pending license application.
The fight will be the first for Pacquiao in the 154-pound division, but it also gives the Filipino boxing icon a chance to win a title in a record eighth division.
