Things got rough between the Suns and Rockets on Thursday.
With just a few seconds left in the third quarter, Houston guard Rafer Alston shoved Phoenix forward Matt Barnes. Alston said he pushed Barnes in retaliation, but his actions caused an even bigger fight.
Yao Ming hit the floor with no ill effects, and Steve Nash was lucky not to get hurt when he went flying into the scrimmage.

Jimi Hendrix drummer Mitch Mitchell dead at 62

Mitch Mitchell, the last surviving member of legendary 1960s band The Jimi Hendrix Experience, passed away early this morning. He was 62.
He was found in a hotel room in Oregon, officials said. A statement on the official Jimi Hendrix website run by the late guitarist’s estate said Mitchell died from natural causes.
Mitchell played with the sort of infectious enthusiasm that makes you want to learn drums… yet Mitch was the most underrated drummer in rock history.

Microsoft adds Facebook-like features to Live.com

Microsoft announced Thursday it has overhauled its Live.com search site to include some of the social networking features made famous by companies like Facebook.
Windows Live users will be able to let people they’ve designated as “friends” see activities they are doing in other Web applications through Windows Live Hotmail, Windows Live Messenger and other Live applications and services, said Chris Jones, corporate vice president of Windows Live at Microsoft.

Woman shot to death during KKK ritual

A woman was killed at a Ku Klux Klan ritual in the swamps of Louisiana, officials told local media.
At some point on Sunday evening, the woman decided she wanted to leave and got into a quarrel with group leader Raymond “Chuck” Foster, 44 who pulled out a .40 caliber handgun and shot her.
Investigators found weapons, several flags and six Klan robes at the campsite, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Jack Strain said in a news release.

Google Flu Tracker via Flu Trends

Google developed a flu tracker called Google Flu trends. It was developed with the help of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is based on the number of search queries made about influenza. Google said it noticed that there was a relationship between the frequency of search queries and the number of people who are experiencing flu-like symptoms each week.

Tim Lincecum wins Cy Young Award

San Francisco Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum won the 2008 Cy Young Award after the pitcher ranked second in the National League in victories and earned run average.
The slender kid with the spinning windup joined Mike McCormick (1967) as the only San Francisco Giants pitchers to win a Cy Young.
