Paraguay striker Salvador Cabanas shot in the head


Club America striker Salvador Cabanas is in a critical condition after he was shot in the head in a bar in Mexico City last night while visiting the establishment with friends and relatives.

According to several reports from Mexico, the Paraguayan international got involved in a fight which eventually ended in a shoot-out in the bathroom area of the bar.

The 29-year-old football star is now battling for his life.

Mexican officials said on Monday that two suspects have been detained.

Cabanas, 29, was top scorer in the 2007 and 2008 Copa Libertadores and was Paraguayan Footballer of the Year and South American Footballer of the Year in 2007. He is a prolific and natural goalscorer known for his array of skills on the field. He was slated to play for Paraguay in the World Cup in South Africa this June.
